In 2011 H.O.W. established the Dr. Robert C. Knapp Medical Student Award. This award allows medical students to work with a board certified or eligible gynecologic oncologist in research, clinical practice, or educational projects. Priority will be given to Florida medical students. H.O.W. will select a minimum of five students who have a minimum of one month of elective time during their medical school years.
The appropriate representative of the medical school will recommend the student to H.O.W. and H.O.W. will make the selection. The time spent must be a minimum of four weeks or more and each student will write and submit to H.O.W. his or her experience. In addition, the student needs to describe in confidence a description of the preceptor. Each student will receive an award of $3,000. If any work is published or presented, H.O.W. must receive appropriate acknowledgement. With this award, H.O.W. hopes the students will consider a career in gynecologic oncology.
